More insight from a guest speaker named Sy Rogers. (This is why it's a good idea to keep notes - you get new insight when you go back and reread!)
Sy talked about how it's not really the existence of God that keeps getting called into question, it's His character. But we are limited on what we can know about God. And it's not like He's yelling at us, "you'd better trust me!!" Instead, He asks us, "learn about me?" He is deliberately mysterious, but He tells us if we seek, we will find. He hides things and covers them so that we may dig them up. His mystery invokes investigation. And our pursuit of Him is proof of our desire! For you can never find or have what you are not willing to pursue. Sy also points out that God tells us in scripture that His thoughts, His ways are above ours and therefore they confuse and frustrate us as they seem frightening and unpredictable. But, you CAN trust His character and His love for you. Here he quoted Corrie Ten Boom: "Faith is trusting God is good when you have reason to believe otherwise." Next Sy surprised me by telling us to blame God - you're going to anyway! And He will be responsible for both what and who He is and for your path. In fact, Jesus dying on the cross was Him taking responsibility; He owned up and fixed things. Lastly he reminded us that God is nice to us, He does not treat us as we deserve. For this he referenced Psalm 103 and Jeremiah 15:19 which both speak to God's love and redemptive nature!
